Adobe, Microsoft & Ubisoft announce new AI products
The art world is quaking. The gaming and AI worlds are converging. Change is a-brewin’.
Here are the 3 latest announcements you need to know:
1/ Adobe joins the AI art world: Firefly
Adobe announces the launch of its latest AI tool: Firefly. With the feature, users can quickly edit and change images by typing in commands.
[The main focus] of the first stage launch is on image and text effects. Here’s a glimpse of how it works:
According to Adobe, Firefly will first launch as a private beta.
While imaging technologies such as DALL-E or Stable Diffusion have raised concerns about models stealing artist content…
Adobe promises its users that Firefly will give creators the chance to use their skills and creativity to make money and protect their work.

2/ Microsoft also adds AI-generated imaging: Bing Image Creator
Microsoft has added a new feature to its search engine called "Bing Image Creator".
It enables users to generate images using their own words, powered by OpenAI’s DALL-E, an AI-powered software that turns words into images.
According to a press release by the company…
Bing Image Creator will be available to Bing and Microsoft Edge users in preview mode and will eventually become fully integrated into the Bing chat experience.
The new feature allows users to create visuals by describing them in natural language.

With a click of a button, the system will generate the image. The hope is to revolutionize the way people search for and share images online.
[To avoid misuse] Microsoft has put in place safety measures in collaboration with OpenAI. A Bing icon will be added to the bottom left corner of the images created by the AI system.
This icon will let others know that the image was generated using AI.

3/ Ubisoft bring AI writing to gaming: Ghostwriter
Ubisoft's R&D department, La Forge, has created Ghostwriter, an AI tool to assist video game writers in generating first drafts of barks.
What is a bark? Here’s an example:
In a game like Assassin's Creed, barks can include an NPC shouting "Stop, thief!" when the player is detected stealing, or a guard saying "What was that noise?" when the player makes a loud sound.
Quality barks and player experience are directly correlated, so it is a vital part of the gaming experience. But on the flip side…
Creation can take a lot of time and energy.
[The benefit] of Ghostwriter is that it frees up time and creative effort for scriptwriters, giving them time to focus on other core plot items.
Created by Ben Swanson, an R&D scientist at La Forge Montreal, his goal right now is integrating Ghostwriter into the normal production process and helping scriptwriters learn how to use it effectively.
Ghostwriter can help scriptwriters scale up their games and take more risks in their narrative designs while still owning full control over their work, creating more immersive and engaging game experiences for players.

Google Bard: Balancing AI, business & criticism
[In AI news] Google announces the soft launch of its version of ChatGPT: Google Bard.
At this point in time, it is still under testing and is in its experimental stage.
And with the quick release of chatbots like ChatGPT and Bing, the pressure was on for Google to make a move, despite concerns.
Currently, there is a waitlist in place. (You can join here.)
[About Bard] Here’s the 15-second snippet:
Bard runs on Google’s LaMDA learning model
Only those in the US and UK market can access Bard right now
Unlike ChatGPT, Bard is not able to produce code at this point in time
Conversation retention is limited
Bard responses are always based on up-to-date information (ChatGPT cutoff is 2021)
Bard is only available in English currently
Several prompts are generated per request to give user options
Bards, like ChatGPT, warns that it may produce inaccurate or inappropriate response.”
(Fact: Because of inaccurate information produced by Bard during a promotional video, it cost Google’s parent company Alphabet $100 billion in market value.)
Because Bard and AI chatbots are still in their infant stages, Google is taking things slow to figure out the best way to integrate their structures with the current product lineup and its king: the Google search engine.
Google Search brings in ad revenue and how Bard will disrupt or change the revenue stream structure is still in question.
**
Back in February, when Bard was announced to Google employees, the criticism was alive and well. Here is what one Google employee said:
“Dear Sundar, the Bard launch and the layoffs were rushed, botched, and myopic. Please return to taking a long-term outlook.”
Others shared the same sentiment and referred to the launch as “un-Googley”.
When the CEO of Google, Sundar Pichai, tweeted the public launch of Bard on March 21st, the public comments were mixed.
Some say that they will “stick with ChatGPT and Bing” while those not in the US and UK rushed to turn on VPNs to join the waitlist.
Looking forward… Google plans on leveling up its AI presence very soon. With 20+ near-future launches, you can expect AI integrations to Google Suite products like Google Docs, similar to Microsoft’s Copilot.
Other products like YouTube and Pixel will also see a major AI upgrade.
