AI News: The Headliners 🏁
1/ Senator outlines 5 AI principles ahead of regulation
[The News] AI regulation: step aside. Sen. Josh Hawley has taken matters into his own hands, outlining 5 guiding principles for future AI regulation.
Here’s the skinny:
Private rights of action: To hold AI developers accountable, citizens should be empowered to sue for AI-related harm.
Protect personal data: Without consent, AI models should not collect sensitive personal data.
Enforce age limits: For protection, companies should be restricted from deploying or marketing generative AI models to children.
Block technology to and from China: AI independence is KEY, so the US should stop China from sending AI chips and tech to the US and should not help China develop AI.
Establish a licensing system: Require generative entities working on generative AI models to get a license to safeguard consumers and increase transparency.
[Why this matters] Coincidence or not, the release of the 5 principles comes only 1 day after Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg “leaked” its LLM Meta AI to the public.
While some might believe the best route for AI is open-source…
From the looks of it, Hawley disagrees and is putting his foot DOWN.
Hawley tells Fox News: "I'm worried about AI's power to manipulate our attention, to manipulate our opinions, and to manipulate the information that we're given. Already, you can see these generative AI systems — these large language models — that are trained on all the information on the internet."
2/ Google partners with Mayo Clinic for AI chatbot development
Google is entering the AI health care industry. Here’s the scoop:
[The News] Partnering with the Mayo Clinic, Google is equipping medical professionals with AI tools to better sift through and analyze patient information.
[The AI] Called the Enterprise Search on Generative AI App Builder, the AI tool essentially allows clinics to create chatbots to quickly identify and sort through patient information.
[Why this matters] In the medical field, time is of the essence.
So by using Google’s technology to gather medical information, scans, lab reports, etc. in a matter of minutes…
The trained chatbots will allow professionals to spend more time treating patients rather than sorting through documents.
In short…Search & Gooo.
The top concern and focus right now?
Aashima Gupta, the global director of health care strategy and solutions at Google Cloud, tells CNBC that “we want to be very thoughtful and responsible in how we leverage such a powerful tool like generative AI in an enterprise setting, especially in health care.”
I.E. Protecting patient privacy

3/ Is the cure for breast cancer…AI?
[The News] According to a study published in Radiology, it was determined that AI programs performed better at predicting 5-year breast cancer risks compared to the traditional models used, BCSC.
How they did it?
The researchers used five AI algorithms. 2 used by researchers, and 3 used commercially.
Scientists screened 324,009 women and picked 13,628 to study.
4,584 eligible women who were diagnosed with breast cancer within five years of the 2016 mammogram were kept in the study.
Scientists continued to keep tabs on the participants until 2021.
In the end… All 5 AI algorithms performed better than the traditional models.
Looking at the highest 10% risk group, researchers reported that AI predicted up to 28% of cancers vs. 21% for the traditional model.
4/ Google releases 10 AI learning courses
