AI News: The Headliners 🏁
1/ Google Bard: Coding…activated!
A month after its public release, Google Bard can now code. Here’s everything you need to know:
[The News] According to the Google blog page, Google announced that it has “updated Bard with the ability to help people with programming and software development tasks, including code generation, code debugging, and explanation.”
Since Bard’s launch, the coding feature hasn't been available. But it’s become one of the top requests from users, and Google listened.
From what we know, Bard came out strong and is able to code in “more than 20 programming languages, including C++, Go, Javascript, Python, and Typescript.”
And for those who want to learn how to code? Bard is able to explain code snippets to the coder.
The blog also mentions that Bard is still in its early stages, so it may still generate inaccurate, misleading, or false information, and that the code provided may not always produce expected results.
It is suggested to “always double-check Bard’s responses and carefully test and review code for errors, bugs, and vulnerabilities before relying on it.”
[Why this matters] When Bard was released, one of the missing features was coding.
This was a trigger for many, as ChatGPT already had the ability to code, and many believed that Bard’s lack of coding ability put them behind its competitors.
Looking forward…Now that Bard has been updated, it will be interesting to see how it performs in comparison to its competitors and how it improves in the future.

2/ Snapchat AI chatbot, free for everyone
Once only available to Snapchat+ subscribers, My AI, Snapchat’s AI-powered chatbot, is now going public…
Meaning YOU now have access. Free of charge.
[The News] On April 19, 2023, the Snapchat newsroom announced that every Snapchat user is now able to access their own AI chatbot.
How it works? The chatbot is powered via ChatGPT and, according to Snapchat, it offers features such as recommendations, Q&A, helping users write a song, or even making detailed plans for a weekend with your family.
From customizing AI Bitmoji characters to adding your AI chatbot into conversations with friends, the AI chatbot’s goal is to level up a user’s experience on Snapchat.
FYI…Snapchat also states that: “My AI is far from perfect, but we’ve made a lot of progress.”
Looking forward… Now that AI chatbots have merged with mainstream social media, it will be up to platforms like Snapchat to monitor how the AI is used and what type of content is exposed to the general public (especially the youngsters of the world).
As of now, the goal for Snapchat is to “help protect against responses that could be inappropriate or harmful.”
How so? The company has added moderation technology to help police harmful content and usage, as well as a parental control tool for those with younger children.

3/ Tom Brady threatening lawsuit over AI comedy special
Tom Brady, the NFL superstar, is the latest AI deepfake victim.
[The News] According to CBS Sports, Tom Brady's legal team has demanded that the comedy duo Will Sasso and Chad Kultgen remove an hour-long AI-generated comedy skit starring Tom Brady's AI persona.
Titled “It’s Too Easy! A Simulated Hour-Long Comedy Special,” AI Tom Brady tells jokes that could be described as insensitive and offensive, and according to the cease-and-desist letter, the content violates the rights of Tom Brady. Some of the jokes covered Brady's use of dating apps since his divorce from Gisele Bündchen.
His legal representatives are threatening to sue if the video is not taken down.
[Why this matters] Here’s the big question:
Does the video violate the rights of Tom Brady? Maybe, maybe not. This story is still playing out…
But Kultgen said on their podcast: “I think this is First Amendment, freedom of speech-type sh*t that we're dealing with here…This is obviously a parody... This is what all impressionists do. You watch hours of tape of that person to get their mannerisms and stuff like this down. It's literally the same.”
How did they do it? The comedians said they used “data from astonishing interviews with Brady” and “hundreds of thousands of hours of stand-up comedy” footage.
Here’s how the public reacted to the video:

4/ Handsfree AI assistant device, LEAKED
[The News] Imagine a device-less AI assistant, right in your pocket.
According to recordings acquired by users on Twitter, Irman Chaudhri, chairman and president of Humane, an AI startup, demoed the AI device on stage during a TED Talk.
While the device is supposed to be released to the public on April 22nd, the video gives us a good idea of what the device does and how it will function for a user.
In the video, Chaudhri wears the device in his breast pocket and taps it to activate it. Then, similar to Apple Siri or Amazon Alexa, he commands the device to summarize a meeting, and in response, the device spits out a summary of emails, calendar invites, and messages.
He also shows the device’s ability to project a screen onto surfaces. He uses his hand to demonstrate, showing a call coming through and picking up the phone call without touching the “screen”.
Looking forward… Right now, we don’t know the full spectrum of the device’s capabilities or how specific actions are activated.
There are currently many leaked videos out there, and here are some of the Twitter links if you’d like to check them out yourself.
