1/ Wendy’s introduces FreshAI for drive-thru
“Yes, hi, FreshAI. I’d like a Wendy’s Baconator, please. Thank you.”
[The News] FreshAI, Wendy's newest AI employee, might greet you the next time you use the drive-thru at your neighborhood Wendy's.
According to Wendy’s press release, Wendy’s will be expanding and continuing its partnership with Google Cloud to “revolutionize the quick service restaurant industry.”
[The AI] So how does FreshAI work? The basis of it will be Google's LLM, which makes use of Wendy's menu data.
It will also be programmed to incorporate Wendy's business principles and logic for conversation guardrails.
[Why this matters] More than 50 years ago, Wendy’s introduced the first modern pick-up window, and now it is leading again, but this time in the fast-food AI space.
The idea here is to use AI to reduce the complexity of ordering menus in order to not only offer a better customer experience...
But, the AI will be better at comprehending customized orders and eliminating human errors when taking orders.
Looking forward… Right now, the plan is to launch the AI-powered drive-thru in June 2023.
This soft launch, which will begin in Columbus, Ohio, will provide the company with the opportunity to learn and expand to more drive-thrus in the near future.

2/ Google search engine AI upgrade causes concern
Google’s search engine is getting an AI upgrade…
[The News] Following slowly in the footsteps of Microsoft’s Bing search engine, Google is beginning to incorporate AI into its largest moneymaker:
The Google Search Engine.
However, because generative AI, such as Bard, is notorious for hallucinating and spreading misinformation, the company is taking safeguards by employing beta testing and integrating it into its crown jewel to make sure consumers continue to receive the best and most credible results.

It will begin by operating through a search lab where people in the US can join the waitlist to test... similar to their launch of Google Bard, which is now open to the public without a waitlist.

4/ Influencer's AI chatbot is expected to generate $5 million
With more than 1.8 million Snapchat followers, an influencer is monetizing her following with none other than her own AI chatbot.
[The News] First reported by Fortune, 23-year-old influencer Caryn Marjorie created a virtual AI version of herself called CarynAI.
Fortune reports that she has more than 1,000 paying subscribers already, and during a beta test in early May, the chatbot generated $71,610 in revenue in about a week's time, charging $1 per minute of interaction.
Most of the subscribers are men.
[The AI] How does it work? According to Fortune, it combined now-deleted YouTube channel footage and voice recorders from Caryn's channel with OpenAI's GPT-4 API.
Looking forward… The influencer estimates that she will be able to earn up to $5 million a month if she’s able to convert 20,000 of her 1.8 million subscribers into paying customers.
She tells Fortune that “CarynAI is going to come and fill that gap" and that “Caryn will never replace me… [it] is simply an extension of me, an extension of my consciousness.”
